Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how WiseNotes ("WiseNotes," "we," "us") — operated by Jacob Hoogendyk (sole proprietor) — handles information in connection with the WiseNotes apps for iPhone and Mac (the "App") and the wisenotes.io website (the "Site"). By using the App or Site, you agree to this Policy.

1. Our approach: we can't see your notes

WiseNotes is built so that your notes are end-to-end encrypted. The encryption key is derived from your recovery phrase, which lives only on your devices (in the device keychain) and is never sent to us. Because of this:

• We never receive a readable copy of your notes, attachments, or their contents.
• We cannot read, scan, sell, or hand over the contents of your notes — we simply don't have them in a form we can access.
• We cannot reset or recover your recovery phrase for you. Keep it somewhere safe.

2. Information we do not collect

• No account. WiseNotes has no username/password sign-up. We don't ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the App.
• No note contents. See Section 1.
• No advertising or third-party trackers. We don't include ad SDKs or cross-app tracking.

3. Information we (or our providers) process

To make sync and subscriptions work, a small amount of information is necessarily processed:

Sync data (relayed, encrypted)

When you turn on Sync, your devices exchange your encrypted notes. When they can't connect directly, your encrypted data passes through a relay operated on Cloudflare infrastructure. The relay only ever handles encrypted data it cannot read, together with minimal routing information (such as randomly generated device identifiers and timestamps) needed to deliver updates between your own devices. Relayed data is transient and is automatically deleted after a short period (currently about 30 days).

Subscriptions

WiseNotes Pro subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment-card details. We receive only the subscription status needed to unlock Pro features. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Support communications

If you email support@wisenotes.io (including via Settings → Help & Support in the App), we receive what you choose to send. The App can pre-fill your app version, operating system, and sync status, and — only if you turn it on — recent sync diagnostic events, to help us troubleshoot. We use this solely to respond to and resolve your request.

4. On-device intelligence

Features like Constellations search and suggested links run on your device. The analysis of your notes for these features happens locally and is not sent to us or any third party.

5. Diagnostics & crash data

We do not use third-party analytics. If you install the App through TestFlight or the App Store, Apple may provide us with standard, aggregated diagnostic and crash information in accordance with your device settings and Apple's policies. You can control this in your device's privacy settings.

6. Third-party services

• Apple — app distribution, subscriptions, and standard diagnostics, under Apple's privacy policy.
• Cloudflare — infrastructure for the encrypted sync relay and the Site, under Cloudflare's privacy terms.

7. Data retention

Your notes are retained on your own devices for as long as you keep them. Encrypted data on the sync relay is short-lived and auto-deleted (currently ~30 days). Support emails are kept only as long as needed to assist you and meet our legal obligations.

8. Your choices & rights

• Delete your data. Deleting a note removes it from your devices (and, via sync, your other devices). Deleting the App removes its local data from that device.
• Export your data. You can export your library to a file you control (see the App's Backups feature).
• Turn off sync at any time in Settings, to keep WiseNotes fully local.
• Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights regarding personal data. Because we hold so little personal data, most requests can be honored on-device; for anything else, contact us.

9. Children

WiseNotes is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. International users

WiseNotes is offered from the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, you understand that the limited information described above may be processed on infrastructure located in other countries, always protected by encryption as described.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice where appropriate.
